'It felt like I was working in a war zone.'
An ICU nurse in Southeast Michigan vented on camera following horrific 13-hour shift treating Covid-19 patients. coronavirusThe ICU nurse from Southeast, Michigan, who was not named, said she shot the video to vent after a horrific 13-hour shift and to warn people to take the outbreak seriously.
‘I don’t know what the fuck just happened for the past 13 hours. Honestly guys, it felt like I was working in a war zone,’ the nurse, identified as Melissa Steiner, said in the video with tears in her eyes. According to Steiner’s LinkedIn, she works as a registered nurse at Beaumont Health. ‘I was completely isolated from my team members, limited recourses, limited supplies, limited responses from physicians because they’re just as overwhelmed as we are dealing with a ton of other stuff.’‘So basically I just spent the last 13 hours like treating two critically ill Covid-19 patients on the vent , basically by myself and this is my new normal for the next however many months that it takes for this virus to die down.
The nurse’s plea comes as hospitals in her state have struggled to cope with the worsening coronavirus outbreak. Michigan is the state with the fifth-most number of cases in the country with more than 2,200 infected and at least 43 deaths.
