The TSO show was big, bright and bold. The arena was smothered in power chords, rhythmic laser light displays, rotating pulsing, revolving, multicolored spotlights, flame fountains, smoke and more.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra performs at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, December 30, 2022CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Trans-Siberian Orchestra has cornered a particular end of the seasonal music market. Sure, many artists do annual holiday/Christmas tours, but this time of year is the only time to get the full TSO sensory onslaught and get your fill of dramatically caffeinated holiday tunes.
TSO wants everyone in the room, from the die-hards in the front row to the fans dabbing blood droplets from their nostrils way up in the upper reaches of the packed arena, to absorb the TSO experience, and there is plenty to absorb. A TSO show is a dazzling display of talent and technology that will get your pupils pulsing.
For the 2022 tour, the TSO collective reached back to “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve,” the 1999 made-for-TV special that helped establish their brand. It’s the story of a young runaway girl who takes refuge in an old abandoned theater and is entertained by a group of ghost performers from the theater’s history, which is outlined in verse between songs by baritone narrator Bryan Hicks, Meanwhile, clips from the original film plays on the big screen, but it was all pretty nebulous.
The second set ditched the story concept for a “Best of TSO” set that leaned heavier on the prog-rock and neo-classical side of the TSO catalog but still with plenty of recognizable holiday themes.
