A respected member of the racing community has started a fundraiser to support Dean Holland's family, after a fatal accident in a country racing competition led to the jockey's death.
on Monday night, making a substantial donation of $25,000 himself to kickstart the fund.
More than 1,300 donations have already been made, with more than $350,000 raised to meet the $500,000 goal. The 34-year-old was riding his horse Headingley in the first race of the day, when it abruptly ducked and crashed into the running rail just 200 metres from the final straight.Both horses were uninjured and Ms Kelly was able to safely walk away from the crash.
Sports broadcaster Bruce McAveney penned an emotional post on behalf of the 7 Horse Racing Team after hearing the “terrible news”.
