Jockey Dean Holland has been remembered as a selfless, “humble” man who was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. 7NEWS
It was Holland’s second Group 1 win, 13 years after his first, but even then the jockey’s thoughts were with others.
Holland was a last-minute call-up for that race, stepping in for the injured Jamie Kah, who had been rushed to hospital. “The last thing I want to do is yahoo too much about me winning the race when Jamie should’ve been on to start with,” Holland told McAvaney after the race.“All of us here at Seven Racing are shocked and saddened at the loss of a young man in the prime of his career,” McAvaney said... It was his second Group 1 win following on from the Australasian Oaks at Morphettville in 2010.
“Dean was a young man who would do anything for anybody, with a smile. He’s much admired and respected by everyone in the sport and today we all grieve over such a tragic loss.”
