Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Inc. said Friday a $531.7 million expansion of its San Antonio plant is to make parts for drivetrains, which connect a vehicle’s transmission to its driving axles. The parts are currently made by a third-party supplier outside the state. The expansion was previously announced.
Toyota begins producing 2022 Tundra at San Antonio plant Toyota said Friday it has invested $4.7 billion in the plant, which produced more than 181,000 vehicles last year. Beyond direct employees, Toyota suppliers, which operate on its 2,000-acre campus, employ about 5,800 people. The automaker hasn’t said when it intends to begin the drivetrain expansion.
