It’s sure to be a showstopper — unless fears about cloudy weather blocking the view turn out to be a reality.
According to eclipse veterans, a total solar eclipse is a go-anywhere-, do-anything-to-see event, one that, to be fully appreciated, must be viewed from the “path of totality,” the 115-mile-wide swath that will fall completely under the moon’s umbra, or shadow. For them, anything other than totality is weak sauce. “I tell people all the time that 99.9% of totality is 0% of a total eclipse,” said Chap Percival, a retired astronomy teacher who has witnessed six total eclipses.
