A single supercell thunderstorm tore across a portion of the Texas Panhandle on Tuesday producing a short-lived tornado

A single supercell thunderstorm tore across a portion of Texas on Tuesday. The tornado was only on the ground for three minutes between 4:50 p.m. to 4:52 p.m. CDT.

It tracked through Rita Blanca National Grasslands and did not appear to damage any major structures, but narrowly missed a home. Since there are few damage indicators for the tornado, it will likely be considered an EF-unknown.Hail stones ranged from the size of quarters, to as large as 5.5 inches in diameter. To put that into perspective, if you took two baseballs and laid them side by side, that would be the same size as that 5.5 inch hail stone that was found in Lela, Texas.

Other communities and towns had numerous 2-inch to 4-inch hail reports, as well, which stripped limbs and leaves off of trees, busted car windshields, and even damaged some siding on a home or two.Thursday is another day to monitor closely, as severe weather could be possible again for the eastern third of the panhandles. Storms will pose large hail threat again, as well as winds gusting over 70 mph. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
