NEW: The National Weather Service in Boulder issued tornado warnings for Lincoln County and portions of rural El Paso County
More than 500 flights have been delayed at Denver International Airport on Monday due to thunderstorms across the Front Range.. Southwest has accounted for one-third of the 550 delayed flights.
The storm system prompted the National Weather Service in Boulder to issue a severe thunderstorm warning and flood advisory for Boulder County. That area can expect quarter-size hail, wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and likely street flooding in south Boulder. Boulder’s mayor, Aaron Brockett, tweeted video of a central Boulder street covered in hail, with water flowing freely down the road.Boulder has seen hail as large as 1 inch in diameter with two inches of accumulation in some areas, said Evan Direnzo, an NWS meteorologist.
Flooding has been reported at the intersection of 9th Street and Basalm Avenue in northwest Boulder, he said.
