A round of 62 pulls him away from field as rain delays play
There are times when Tony Finau might be the best golfer in the world and one of the most physically gifted ever. From midafternoon Thursday through midday Friday, the 33-year-old Finau, a strapping athlete with an engaging personality who’s easily the highest-profile name on the Cadence Bank Houston Open leaderboard, played the front nine at Memorial Park twice in 10-under par — despite two bogeys. Yes, that’s 12 birdies over 18 holes. He didn’t stop there, either.
For the moment, Noren is tied with Tyson Alexander, who carded another 66. Wise was 6 under through 12, having dropped a stroke with a bogey on the previous hole. In between, before making it an early evening, he went in search of some sushi, having suggested before leaving the course that his smoking finish was going to make dinner “taste a lot better.” And it was delicious, except the meal, he admitted, “didn’t settle too well.” He needed a bathroom break on the first hole Friday morning. It proved only a minor distraction.
