The 2023 Guardians' Opening Day roster is nearly set.
Herrin is on the 40-man roster for the first time, but the Guardians haven’t been shy about using him. The 6-5 lefty leads the team with nine appearances. He’s struck out 11, walked two and allowed five earned runs in 9 2/3 innings.
Kelly is in camp as a non-roster player. He was a supplemental pick in the first round by the Padres in 2011. He didn’t reach the big leagues until last season when he spent four games with the Phillies. There are no surprises with the rest of the infield. Josh Bell and Josh Naylor will share first base and DH. Andres Gimenez will be at second, Jose Ramirez at third and Amed Rosario at shortstop.
It appears the Guardians will go with five outfielders, meaning Richie Palacios and Roman Quinn are up for that job. Palacios is on the 40-man roster and Quinn is in camp on a non-roster contract.
