Tiger Woods was 'sweating profusely' and had multiple pills in his pocket before being arrested for DUI after a rollover crash in Florida
Woods, 50, had two hydrocodone pills in his left pocket when he was taken into custody in Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday, March 27, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Us Weekly. Hydrocodone is a widely prescribed painkiller.
Woods was “sweating profusely” while being questioned by police, which came after his Land Rover clipped a pickup truck near his home. At the time of the accident, Woods claimed he was looking down at his cellphone and changing the radio station. The golfer said he didn’t realize the vehicle in front of him had slowed down. Woods’ movement was described as “lethargic and slow,” though the affidavit said he was “extremely alert” throughout questioning. When officers asked Woods to perform field sobriety tests, he was observed to be “limping and stumbling to the right.” The report said Woods was wearing a compression sock over his right knee. Woods told officers he had undergone seven back surgeries and over 20 operations on his leg. He told police that he walks with a limp and his ankle seizes while walking. After Woods was instructed to remove his sunglasses, his eyes were “bloodshot and glassy” with “extremely dilated” pupils. Woods admitted to medication use earlier in the morning, telling police, “I take a few.” The golfer had hiccups throughout the on-site investigation. Due to his physical state, Woods was permitted to “sit on the push bumper” of the police vehicle while talking to authorities. It was determined that Woods’ “normal faculties were impaired” after performing a series of sobriety tests, with authorities determining he was “unable to safely operate the motor vehicle.”After being transported to Marin County Jail, Woods willfully submitted a test of his breath, which came back showing no alcohol content in his system. However, Woods refused when asked to submit a test of his urine for “the purpose of determining the presence of chemical or controlled substances.” Woods was charged with refusal to submit to BAL test. In 2017, Woods was also arrested for DUI after he was found asleep behind the wheel of his running car, which had two flat tires and damage to the bumpers. He admitted to taking painkillers and eventually pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
