Interactive booths will teach families about water conservation, water technology, water as habitat and sustainability.Other offerings include live chalk art centered around water, hands-on water science experiments and craft projects. While the traditional, costumed mascot has made appearances at prior arboretum events, this time, Smokey’s likeness is robotic and fully-animated. The arboretum’s Christine Mansfield expects the new Smokey to be a big hit with young visitors.Kids can play the race-to-recycle game, craft their own superhero mask, make wildflower seeds using native plant seeds, and participate in “other ways to be heroes for our planet,” Mansfield says.
The story time will activate children's excitement about nature, Jordan says, and they can also partake in challenges such as a bird beak game that teaches them how birds forage for food.
