More than 22,000 Oncor customers in the Dallas area were without power as of 9 p.m., the company’s outage map showed. About 8,000 customers near Fort Worth also experienced outages Sunday evening.
Emergency crews also responded to 22 major crashes, four high-water calls and one water rescue call during the same time period, Evans said. Areas northeast of Dallas, including parts of Hunt and Rockwall counties, were under a severe thunderstorm warning until 8:15 p.m., according to NWS Fort Worth. Tennis ball-sized hail was reported near the area, NWS Fort Worth said.
“We’re expecting thunderstorms to continue developing through the area through the evening and overnight,” Sellers said, adding hail and strong wind are the main threats.
