Thousands of people gathered in downtown Minneapolis on Friday afternoon to protest ICE and other federal law enforcement agents' presence in Minnesota.

by ELAINE MALLON | The National News DeskFootage shows Minnesotans bundled up in coats and gloves amid a temperature reading in the negatives, holding signs calling for ICE to leave. In addition to the rally, hundreds of businesses in Minneapolis closed down on Friday in a show of solidarity.

The ICE OUT of Minnesota protest comes in the wake of the death of Renee Good, an American citizen who was shot by an ICE agent a few weeks ago. Her death has increased tensions between anti-ICE protesters and law enforcement. “Minnesotans are coming together in moral reflection and action to stand together against the actions of the federal government against the state of Minnesota,” the website organizing the protest stated. “The ICE ‘surge’ that cost the life of Renee Nicole Good is violating the Constitutional and human rights of Americans and our neighbors.” “It is time to suspend the normal order of business to demand immediate cessation of ICE actions in MN, accountability for federal agents who have caused loss of life and abuse to Minnesota residents and call for Congress to immediately intervene,” the statement continued.Anti-ICE protesters and school officials claimed that ICE agents were using the child as bait, but DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin rejected this narrative.A Colombian man belonging to a protected class was detained by ICE while leaving immigration court.
