Multiple municipalities and nonprofit organizations across the region opened up shelters to provide a warm place and meals.

People sought shelter from sleet at the inclement weather shelter at Fair Park on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, in Dallas. As dangerously cold temperatures are headed to North Texas this weekend, volunteers and employees from Austin Street Center and OurCalling set up hundreds of stretchers on Thursday at the inclement weather shelter in Fair Park.The city of Dallas shelter operations have placed 12 households into hotels, including 17 adults and 26 children. Also, 14 pets are being housed at the temporary shelter: seven dogs and seven cats.From Monday to Tuesday night, the nonprofit’s locations in Garland, Denton, Arlington and Fort Worth saw an increase in the number of individuals served.The Garland location has seen an increase in people served every night since Friday, said Raegan Lucido, a spokesperson for The Salvation Army of North Texas.Arlington Corps Community Center, 712 W.
