Thompson's D'Marion Terrell makes contact during a game at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Ala., on Thursday, March 14, 2024. The Toronto Blue Jays selected Thompson slugger D’Marion Terrell in the 19th round of Tuesday’s Major League Baseball draft.
Terrell was the No. 577 pick overall. He was the third Alabama player taken out of high school following Oxford infielder Carter Johnson and Baker right-handed pitcher Connor Gatwood . “What I like and what scouts like is, obviously his makeup, you know he’s 6-3, his bat discipline, his plate discipline,” Thompson coach Frankie Perez said. “He’s able to recognize bad pitches and good pitches.”
Terrell was a Class 7A first-team All-State selection as a utility player this season. He hit .426 for the Warriors with 10 homers, 10 doubles, 42 RBIs and 41 runs scored.“He has worked extremely hard to be where he is today,” Perez said. “Words cannot describe how proud I am, the coaching staff and his teammates are of him. We always knew that this was part of a reality for him, not just a dream, but a reality.
