Jason Statham has a lot to show in his career as an action star, with some excellent movies and some mediocre ones. The actor has the gritty, high-octane action niche cornered, making him a go-to for action thrillers.
Even if the story leaves a lot to be desired, the action will keep viewers engaged. In the Crank franchise, Statham plays Chev Chelios, a hitman in a race against time. The films are absurd adrenaline-fueled escapism as Chelios terrorizes L.A. to stay alive. The second film, Crank: High Voltage, dials everything up as Chelios is fitted with an artificial heart that requires constant electrical jolts to keep working. These films are perfect for home viewing, partly for their entertainment value and partly because the extreme violence and nudity would make the entire theater uncomfortable. This explains why Crank: High Voltage is seeing renewed interest on streaming platforms, with the 2009 film recently appearing on Starz's top ten chart. Data from FlixPatrol shows that Crank: High Voltage is the most-watched on Starz globally at the time of writing. This surge in popularity might largely be due to renewed interest in Statham, as his new movie Shelter continues its theatrical run. Made for an estimated $14 million budget, Crank: High Voltage never quite saw the success of its predecessor, which might have contributed to the franchise going dormant after a $34 million global haul. But 20 years on, the Crank franchise remains a cult favorite among Jason Statham fans, even as the actor releases new movies almost yearly. Crank: High Voltage was directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Other cast members include Amy Smart , Clifton Collins Jr. , Efren Ramirez , Bai Ling , David Carradine , Dwight Yoakam , Reno Wilson , Corey Haim , and Glenn Howerton . Jason Statham Has a New Movie In Theaters The Transporter actor can be seen in Shelter, now in theaters. As one would anticipate, the movie is an epic action thriller. He plays Michael Mason, a former assassin with specialized military training who has left society to live in isolation."On a remote coastal island, a reclusive man rescues a young girl from a deadly storm, drawing them both into danger. Forced out of isolation, he must confront his turbulent past while protecting her, sending them on a tense journey of survival and redemption," Shelter's official description explains. Shelter has thus far earned $14 million worldwide and has been somewhat well-received by critics. Fans, however, are loving the movie. Shelter has an 87% audience score on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
