It may not be getting a lot of attention at the Academy Awards, but this film looks like it will take home a good haul.
, is in the hunt for multiple Oscars. Not only was Guillermo del Toro unfortunately snubbed in the Best Director category by not receiving a nomination, but it’s not a frontrunner in any of the topline categories.
But in fact, Frankenstein has nine nominations and is expected to take home three golden statues at the upcoming 98th Academy Awards, according to the odds at least. And if it does, the movie has a surprisingly good shot at taking third place in the overall Oscar standings, behind One Battle After Another and Sinners., such as Kalshi and Polymarket, Frankenstein is the heavy favorite to win Oscars in three technical categories: Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design. The lead that the movie has over its competitors in these categories is so large that it might as well be a lock at this point. The makeup and hairstyling team for Frankenstein headed by Mike Hill, Jordan Samuel, and Cliona Furey has been the leaders ever since the start of the award season. And the team deserves it for. They took home the prize in their categories at the Astra Film Awards, Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, and most recently the British Academy Film Awards . In addition, Mike Hill along with Megan Many won for Best Special Make-Up Effects by the Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild in February, so it would be a surprise if the Academy members didn’t follow suit. Based on data from Kalshi and Polymarket , Frankenstein held the lead of around 80% near the end of 2025. But that has steadily grown to about 92%, far ahead of its next highest competitor, Sinners, that the betting market thinks only has a 6% to 8% shot of winning in the category. This dynamic is much the same when it comes to Costume Design. Frankenstein’s Kate Hawley has effectively swept the Best Costume categories at the most prominent award shows, including the BAFTAs, Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, Saturn Awards, and Satellite Awards. She also received the prize for Excellence in Period Film at the Costume Designers Guild Awards in February. Hawley’s closest competitor in the Oscar category, Ruth E. Carter for Sinners, only has about 7% of the bet, as opposed to Frankenstein being once again in the 90% range. In December 2025, Hamnet’s Malgosia Turzanska brought some competition to the fold as it was polling at around 12%, but that has since shrunk to just 2%. Likewise, Frankenstein’s production designer Tamara Deverall and set designer Shane Vieau have been dominating the award season, with wins at the Critics’ Choice, BAFTAs, Saturn Awards, and Satellite Awards. They also took home the award for Best Achievement in Décor/Design of a Fantasy or Science Fiction Feature Film at the Set Decorators Society of America Awards. Once again, Sinners — specifically, Hannah Beachler and Monique Champagne — stands at a distant second place with similar numbers in prediction markets.
