Code one call-outs – which should be acted on within 10 minutes – are now taking an average of 43 minutes to receive a police response across most of the NT, the coroner has heard.
She added it was crucial for men and boys to be encouraged and empowered to join campaigns to address domestic, family and sexual violence, and called out "unhelpful narratives" that men who used violence were always "monsters".
Despite an emotional afternoon in the witness box, Dr Brown said she "wouldn't be standing" if she didn't have hope for change."There's incredible hope in this space."and said new in-depth training currently being developed could "yield real promise". But Natalie Walker, a forensic psychologist with Correctional Services NT, told the coroner Abbott had refused to take part in an anger management program and refused to accept responsibility for his crime.
Dr Walker said over time Abbott's level of motivation to engage with rehabilitation programs had only decreased, and that many of the programs offered would likely not have worked for him anyway.
