For subscribers: These 9 metro Phoenix restaurants, bars and bakeries are now closed
The Valley lost a few longtime restaurants recently. Some of the recent closures will quickly turn over, from a central Phoenix barbecue restaurant that's being taken over by another well-known pit master to a Glendale steakhouse that will transform into the second branch of a long-standing Western restaurant from Cave Creek. Others are gone for good.
Sad news struck Scottsdale with a closing announcement from an award-winning bakery and in Mesa, a gathering of local food trucks will no longer coalesce. Desert Rose Pizza and Gastropub Sitting at the entrance to downtown Glendale, Desert Rose Pizza and Gastropub was known for its steak, pizza and giant lawn games. Now, the restaurant has been sold and will transition to a
restaurant. While most of the menu will change, a few items from the now closed Desert Rose will still be served.Garcia's Mexican Restaurant Garcia's Mexican Restaurant first opened in Phoenix in 1956. Over the years, the chain expanded to include restaurants in California, Idaho and Utah. Now, a west Valley location of the restaurant on West Peoria Avenue has closed. It served its last customers on Feb. 20. Five Arizona locations remain open.Started in Chicago in 1974, the nationwide chain is famous for its cheese-filled stuffed pizza, and Valley residents previously had two places to find the hefty pies.
