Pretorius set out examples of how, according to deployment minutes, ministers were made to account to the committee. However, Ramaphosa argued that the committee was soft in its approach. He said the committee was not the final decision maker in the appointment process.This, he said, was because there exists a safety net in government in form of a Cabinet that makes the final decision on appointments.He said Cabinet acted as a filter during appointments and the committee could only recommend the names of those to be appointed.
