The weird and wonderful lockdown | Last week, a friend of mine was given a traffic fine for driving without wearing a face mask, while alone in the car. This week I couldn’t believe how much I missed the sound of planes, writes Timothy Molobi.

He said he tried to argue his case and, naturally, the officers didn’t accept his story, telling him that he was driving on a public road and, therefore, ought to have had his mask on. He copped a R300 fine.

The curious me called another friend of mine, Madala, to share my friend’s experience with the law officers. Madala was not so sympathetic, as he said the officers were simply playing by the book.“If the regulation says you must wear a mask in public, that’s what officers will tell you. For you and me, we’ll use common sense and our own interpretation, but they apply the law to the letter,” Madala said. He said the cops were merely doing their job.

I went to Madala again – he really is my go-to person – to share my concerns. His advice was short and sweet: “Why can’t you wear your suits at home? Nothing stops you from wearing them at home. You can wake up as if you are going to the office, take a bath and wear your suit and do your work. Problem solved.”

Many people have complained about staying at home and missing out on a lot of things during this time.
