Surnames could dictate when you can buy booze: here is what you need to know

All those whose surname starts with any of the letters between A to M will be allowed to purchase booze on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The Liquor Traders Association of SA has proposed that consumers are allowed to buy limited quantities of alcohol on certain days of the week only, with the days of purchase determined by the first letter of their surnames. has submitted a detailed plan to government outlining protocols around the sale of alcohol during lockdown.

However, according to the government regulations draft, level regulations only allow for the consumption of liquor from Monday to Wednesday and from 8am to 12pm. No final decision has been made yet as the regulations were just a draft.LTASA argued that limited trading hours could lead to excessive queuing and looting.
