“To have Donald Trump sitting there and we are pretending that he is some sort of upstanding citizen—I find that rather offensive” co-hostsaid of the former president’s invitation to the annual white tie dinner in New York City for Catholic charities in New York.
Sunny Hostin added, “That is not a person I think should be normalized by the Catholic church,” as Trump “stands against everything and flies in the face of everything that a Catholic believes and holds dear.”“It’s a tradition to have both presidential candidates come to this particular dinner, but sometimes there’s a time to break tradition. Former Trump White House official Alyssa Farah Griffin said even with the optics of Trump’s participation in the fundraiser aside, his jokes “didn’t land,” she said, “It was very awkward.”, meanwhile, pitched her own joke in response after they showed a clip of some of Trump’s remarks at the dinner: “A felon, a liar, and a traitor walk into a Catholic event—that’s the joke,” she quipped.should have attended the dinner instead of holding rallies, but Navarro disagreed.
