With Memphis’ Tyus Jones outdueling his younger brother Tre - barely - the Grizzlies...

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — For the opening two quarters Monday at the FedEx Forum, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich didn’t know if he was watching an NBA game or the crochet circle. The upstart Spurs ultimately got Memphis’ attention.

Here are three takeaways from Monday’s game, which the Spurs will rematch Wednesday with another meeting in Memphis:Tre Jones found out not long before tipoff he would be starting against his older brother.“It speaks to all the time we put in, in the gym, or our playroom on the Nerf hoop, whatever it is,” Jones said.

The younger Jones’ proudest moment came midway through the fourth quarter, when he got Tyus to bite on an up-fake, then finished a baseline floater over Adams to knot the score at 109. In a way, it was reminiscent of those Nerf hoop games from back in the day - with one difference. This time, the younger brother couldn’t run crying to his mother over his older brother’s shenanigans.Jackson’s return from injury has turned Memphis - already a rugged defensive team - into the best in the Western Conference, if not the league. He had two on one possession of the second quarter, wiping out Jakob Poeltl at the rim, then turning around to deflect Jeremy Sochan’s putback try.

Despite a second-half rally that saw the Spurs take a five-point lead with 9:23 to play, that mark dropped to 0-26.
