The venue was popular for hosting everything from Robbie Williams tribute nights to Modfest

A sadly lost Greater Manchester venue was once the place for a special event - from going to see a Robbie Williams tribute act to dusting off your best Parka for Modfest.Several bands went on to fame - and sometimes fortune - after appearing there, including The Boomtown Rats, XTC and The Jam.

The rise and fall of Grand Central - from post-industrial wasteland to THE place to be in 1990s StockportIn the Noughties, the venue was popular for hosting special music nights including Swing and 1940s nights, tribute acts, and '80s and '90s themed music nights.During those years photographer Phil Taylor, who worked for the Middleton Guardian, would be on hand to take snaps of people happily enjoying whatever event was taking place there.
