It felt like I had taken a short journey back in time

I had never stepped foot inside the village of Port Sunlight until this week. After its commendable achievement of being named one of the best villages in Britain, my visit was long overdue.

As I stood outside the train station my attention was immediately drawn to a café opposite which stood on the corner of the road. It wasn't the arresting architecture that intrigued me or the two red phone boxes stood proudly outside , it was an older couple in the window seats. I could see the older couple engaged deep in conversation and only taking a breath to allow themselves a sip of coffee, before gearing up for a long-winded conversation again.

As I followed the street signs to the Lady Lever Art Gallery, I was fortunate enough to get chatting to a Port Sunlight resident named Roy. Roy told me: ''I have lived in Port Sunlight all my life, 75 years. You couldn't pay me to move elsewhere.'' I could see how much the village meant to Roy as he delved into the history of his family in Port Sunlight.

Continuing my journey, I passed many of the attractions I had seen sign posts for. Port Sunlight Museum, Port Sunlight Garden Centre and SoapWorks. As much as I would've liked to visit all attractions on offer, I had my eyes peeled for The Lady Lever Art Gallery. As the gallery became more populated I made myself scarce and set off to explore new areas of the village. And that is when I met Gillian, another resident of Port-Sunlight who I just happened to cross paths with.

Gillian was very clear about the importance of not changing the appearance of the house too much, not even its interior. She said: It's important to keep the house the way it is, no way I'm going to cover it. I have lived here 15 years now and not much has changed.''
