Authorities said they identified the person responsible for the sexual assault and death of a 12-year-old Texas girl in 1979 through DNA.
Lesia Jackson, 12, went missing on Sept. 7, 1979, in Montgomery County. Her body was found less than a week later.identified Gerald Dwight Casey, of Conroe, as the prime suspect in the death of Lesia Michell Jackson. Casey, however, died by lethal injection in 2002 for a murder conviction in 1989.
Lesia was last seen on Sept. 7, 1979, walking home from her neighborhood pool in Conroe, located about 40 minutes northwest of Houston.An extensive search was conducted the next day, but only her eyeglasses were found. On Sept. 13, an oilfield worker found her body in a heavily wooded area about 5 miles from her home.
Authorities found the bikini, shredded T-shirt and gold butterfly necklace that she had been wearing the day she went missing near her body. Officials said she had been strangled and sexually assaulted before her body was dumped. The investigation would go cold until October 2021, when the sheriff's office used modern DNA technology to process evidence from her clothing.Montgomery County Sheriff's Office
