Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte and his Oklahoma counterpart, Joe Castiglione, have held firm to the 2025 date whenever pressed on a timeline, though several sources and outside reports have indicated the longtime rivals-turned-SEC bedfellows would prefer an earlier exit from the Big 12. The Big 12’s Board of Directors, comprised of the presidents and chancellors of the ten current Big 12 members, participated in the interview process, along with the four incoming members who will join the conference in 2023.
The Big 12, which is reportedly considering adding up to six more teams from the Pac-12 in coming years, currently has a media rights deal with ESPN and FOX that expires in 2025. And Yormark will be instrumental in this coming round of negotiations as the Big 12 tries to keep pace with the SEC and Big Ten.Texas coach Steve Sarkisian’s luster still hasn’t dulled despite an underwhelming debut season.
