Three people are dead and 14 others hospitalized following a mass shooting early Sunday morning. The Austin backyard bar that was near the scene of the mass shooting that killed three people on West Sixth Street last weekend is set to reopen tonight. Management said 40 of the venue’s 41 employees told leadership they felt ready to return to work after spending several days healing and reflecting. “For many, Buford’s is more than a workplace,” the statement said. “It’s their primary source of income and a place where they feel supported and not alone.”The bar described its return to operations as part of a broader effort to help staff and the surrounding community begin healing after the violence. Buford’s officials also said they have been working closely with law enforcement and city officials ahead of reopening.Authorities said a gunman opened fire into a crowd, killing three people and injuring 18 others before being shot by responding officers. To honor those affected by the shooting, Buford’s said 100% of all sales from Friday through Sunday will be donated to the victims and families most impacted by the attack. “We move forward with heavy hearts,” the statement said. “But with deep gratitude for our team and community, and a commitment to stand together.” The bar said there will be an increased police presence around Sixth Street and Rio Grande this weekend. Management also announced plans to add protective glass along the beer garden area as part of additional safety measures moving forward.
