The Regrettes (regrettesband) use the power of punk to create a safe space at their live shows. We caught the band in NYC a few weeks ago, and it was a night to remember:
After watching The Regrettes perform a sold-out show last Thursday at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City, I feel truly confident in saying the future of punk rock and garage pop is in good hands. The female-fronted powerhouse group commands their audience with honest empathy and humble resilience. The loving relationship they have with their young fans is contagious and obvious.
You know you’re at a Regrettes concert when you’re surrounded by a crowd of young girls dressed in pastel colors with tiny hearts drawn on their faces, taking style cues from the iconic 18-year-old Lydia Night, The Regrettes’ lead singer and rhythm guitarist. Her deep sultry vocals are reminiscent of Brody Dalle from early 2000s punk rock band The Distillers. Lead guitarist , bassist , and drummer follow Lydia’s lead in tight rhythmic sequence. You could tell these guys practice.
Lydia creates a safe space for women, promoting Planned Parenthood and even initiating a girls-only mosh pit during the finale, instructing all of the guys to move to the back of the room. The Regrettes continue their ‘How Do You Love Tour’ with numerous dates announced across the West Coast through November, before heading off to Europe. Find all their tour datesWe were so happy to host the band in our New York studio back in August! Check out their full Paste session below:
