The Knicks were mocked a fair amount during free agency when they used a chunk of their $70 million in cap space to sign four power forwards.

But now that training camp has rolled around, the Knicks say their size will be an advantage both offensively and defensively against smaller lineups.who spurned the Spurs to sign a one-year, $15-million deal with the Knicks, said this week

“Nowadays it’s position-less basketball, so wherever I’m at on the court, I really don’t look at myself as a 4 or a 3. I think you guys will be surprised at how well I can handle the ball, how well I can shoot the three off the dribble and do multiple things with the ball in my hands.” LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 07: Mitchell Robinson #23 of the New York Knicks tries to dunk against the Phoenix Suns during the 2019 NBA Summer League at the Thomas & Mack Center on July 7, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. NOTE TO USER: User expresslyRobinson is also expected to take strides offensively in his second season. A dominant shot-blocker and dunker, he’s been working on his 3-point shot in the offseason.

Early in training camp, the team has emphasized defense. Gibson believes the size should help the Knicks get back some of the pound-and-ground approach they had during the 1990s when Patrick Ewing, Charles Oakley and Anthony Mason made it painful for opposing players to foray into the paint.
