On Feb. 11, the Cumberland County Republican Committee of which I am a member met for their endorsement meeting. As a follow-up, the committee issued a press release announcing the endorsed candidates. To put the percentages given in perspective, I’d like to share the numbers in the commissioner’s race. There were 149 valid ballots cast and per the bylaws 60% is needed to receive an endorsement or in this case 89 votes. The two candidates endorsed received these votes - Nate Silcox 124 votes votes and Kelly Neiderer 94 votes .
A member must have voted for two of the candidates from an approved list for their votes to be counted. Unlike in May, if a member votes for only one candidate on the list or writes in a name of someone not on the list their ballot is rejected and none of their votes count.
