The Mummy has one scene where its team of VFX artists had to get creative in order to hide the embarrassing and recurrent mistake of one actor.

In order to bring The Mummy to life, the production team invested a big part of the budget in special effects, and thanks to this, the VFX team was able to cleverly hide the embarrassing mistake of one particular actor. Directed by Stephen Sommers, The Mummy is a remake of the 1932 movie of the same name, and though it received mixed reviews, it was a commercial success.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Mummy follows Rick O’Connell , a former captain in the French Foreign Legion in 1923 who, after the massacre of the men he served with at Hamunaptra, becomes an adventurer. Three years later, Evelyn and Jonathan Carnahan find Rick in a Cairo prison and free him so he can lead them to Hamunaptra. However, once there, they accidentally awaken Imhotep , a high priest buried alive centuries ago.

At one point in the scene, the camera shows Imhotep as he leads the crowd. Behind him is Beni, who is being taken by two of Imhotep's slaves, and the one on his right has white eyes. This was the work of the VFX crew, as the actor kept looking straight at the camera in every take. The solution so the shots and the work of the whole cast and crew wouldn't be wasted was to make his eyes white in post-production, as if he was in a trance-like/zombified state, and it worked perfectly.

The Mummy's VFX Fix Actually Worked For The Movie The work of The Mummy's VFX team in the above-mentioned scene is quite impressive as no one would have suspected the actor's eyes were covered in post-production, let alone that he was looking at the camera the whole time. This decision ended up working better than probably expected as it fitted The Mummy's fantasy themes, making the actor look quite creepy.
