The new film, which skips 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, is now a direct sequel to 1999’s The Mummy and 2001’s The Mummy Returns. In the original movies, Jonathan was seen as the brother of Weisz’s character, Evelyn. A thief with more charm than courage, he set the first film’s plot in motion by stealing a map from adventurer Rick O’Connell, played. Across the trilogy, Jonathan consistently found himself swept into supernatural adventures while managing to come out ahead despite the chaos. The film collective Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are helming the movie. The script is by David Coggeshall. The directing duo previously directed Ready or Not movies.on May 19, 2028, with production reportedly set to begin this fall in London and Morocco. Plot details remain tightly under wraps, though fans will get a taste of the franchise’s return sooner. Universal has re-released The Mummy Returns in theaters on March 27 to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary.
