Fans still have to wait until September for the debut album from country supergroup The Highwomen, but on Friday (July 27) they got a taste of what's to come during the group's first-ever set at Newport Folk Festival.
, who co-wrote the song with Shires and Chris Tompkins and was on hand as part of the group's backing band, described the track's origins to the crowd, joking that bringing it to Carlile "was kind of like taking my civil rights movie to Spike Lee.
