I’ve been writing about video games, television and movies for Forbes for over 10 years, and you may have seen my reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. I cover all manner of console and PC games, but if it’s about looting or shooting, I’m definitely there. If I’m watching something, it’s usually science fiction, horror or superheroic.
The First Descendant has just released its first major patch/hotfix since its release last week, and it’s a very solid one that indicates a receptive, fast-acting studio addressing key player concerns.
Hard Mode Infiltrations now have matchmaking where previously they did not, which was making many of them too annoying to run at higher levels They have removed the one Immunity Ball concept where you have to break the balls in the specific order they spawn, which can be hard enough for one player to track when dodging attacks and dealing with mobs, but with a group on no mics trying to coordinate, it was almost impossible. They also acknowledge that the named monsters are “monotonous” as there are really only two mechanics with all of them, spawn immunity balls or spawn a ring of enemies around them, and they’re working on “enhancing” them in the future. They are changing the farming of rare basic materials in that they will now drop outside of Encrypted Vaults in lower quantities. You can get them in Field Missions and Infiltrations too now. They will monitor farming to “do our best to create a joyful environment for all our Descendants.” Marie Kondo studio over here. But I appreciate it.There are a number of optimization fixes including fixes for shader generation, GPU usage when set at high or ultra quality, character skins dropping to lower quality during extended play, frame limits being set when using Frame Generation and more. I am going to log in to see if this will fix the extremely irritating hitching in my game that has been there from the start, but I am concerned that’s more of server issue that isn’t addressed here. I’ll find out shortly.being changed, namely that players are concerned that strong builds like ones using Tamer or Gley infinite magazine will be nerfed. Here, they’re pulling a “not Diablo 4” and leaving them alone. Here’s what they say:“This meta is very strong, but since it is within the scope of what the Dev Team has planned, there are no immediate plans to do so. In addition, some weapons are more powerful than Tamer and there are a variety of character builds that rival Gley's infinite magazine, so please enjoy them fully. We've been looking forward to seeing Descendants use creative builds to take down powerful Colossi swiftly, so we're quite delighted to see this in action now.” They also confirm that even though some drop rate percentages seem like they’re lying to you they swear they’ve tested them and they’re accurate, it’s just RNG. But they are working on other ways to “improve the farming experience.” Really great patch. I hope my tech issues can be solved, but great to see them moving quickly on other feedback and problems. Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
