Summary Sons of Anarchy counted on the help and presence of real-life members of the Hells Angels, and one of them ended up becoming a fan-favorite character – but he got a very disappointing fate. Back in 2008, Kurt Sutter brought the action crime drama TV series Sons of Anarchy, which took the audience to the fictional town of Charming, California, to meet the title motorcycle club.
Sons of Anarchy was a success with critics and viewers and ran for a total of seven seasons, through which it chronicled the rise and fall of Jackson “Jax” Teller, VP and later President of the title MC. Sons of Anarchy expanded with a spinoff TV series in 2018 titled Mayans M.C. The series followed the title MC, which had a recurrent appearance in Sons of Anarchy. The surviving members of SAMCRO appeared from time to time in Mayans M.C., but the focus of the series was still the Mayans club and the struggles of member Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes . Happy Lowman Was Played By A Real-Life Hells Angel Happy Lowman Was One Of SAMCRO’s Most Dangerous Members Despite looking serious and intimidating most of the time, Happy was one of the most loyal and caring members of SAMCRO. Happy Lowman wasn’t a member of SAMCRO at the beginning of Sons of Anarchy, but he was an active associate as he was often used as an enforcer. Happy was a member of the Tacoma, Washington charter and later became part of the Nomads. Happy became a full-patched member of SAMCRO in Sons of Anarchy season 3, and when Chibs Telford took over as President following Jax’s death, he became his Sgt-at-arms. Despite looking serious and intimidating most of the time, Happy was one of the most loyal and caring members of SAMCRO, but that’s not why he got his name. The Sgt-at-arms is the President’s right hand and the last line of defense between a threat and the President of the club. Happy was known for being ruthless and for his violent ways when defending the club, and for every murder he committed, he would get a smiley face tattoo – and he had a lot of them. Sons of Anarchy was clearly inspired by motorcycle clubs like the Hells Angels, and it counted on the assistance and talent of some of its members, such as Labrava. Because of his experience with the Hells Angels, Labrava was hired as a technical advisor for Sons of Anarchy, and even wrote the award-winning episode “Hands”. Happy Lowman Died In Mayans M.C. - Why It Was Disappointing Happy Lowman Deserved A Better Ending The Reyes brothers traveled to Charming and broke into Happy’s house, holding him at gunpoint. Happy’s crimes caught up with him in Mayans M.C. One of his murder-for-hire missions resulted in the death of Marisol Reyes, the mother of the series’ protagonist, Ezekiel Reyes. The latter eventually learned the identity of his mother’s murderer and, along with his brother, Angel, went after Happy. The Reyes brothers traveled to Charming and broke into Happy’s house, holding him at gunpoint. Happy refused to talk at first until the brothers threatened his dog, Opie, and so he explained to them that the hit was for both their parents and the order came from México. As it was the anniversary of Marisol’s death, Ezequiel gave Angel the “gift” of killing Happy, who taunted him about it. Ezekiel shot Happy in the chest a couple of times before Angel delivered the final one to his head. While Happy was not innocent and he committed many crimes, making him responsible for Marisol’s death was unnecessary, and Ezekiel’s revenge felt forced and badly written. After everything he did for SAMCRO and his brothers and his popularity with fans of Sons of Anarchy, Happy Lowman deserved a better death, such as dying for the club like Opie, Bobby, and Jax did.
