The Fairbanks City Council approves officers pay grade and passes ordinance 6258.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks City Council passed ordinance 6258 at the Fairbanks City Council Meeting on Monday, August 14.
This ordinance amended schedule B of the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Fairbanks and the Public Safety Employees Association. With a 5-1 vote, the ordinance modified the Fairbanks Police Department’s contract for officers to receive a $4 per hour raise. That raise will expire next year, at which time negotiations will begin again.
Ron Dupee, the Chief of Police for the Fairbanks Police Department explains the next steps for the department. “We have the full plan in place now. So we’re going forward with our recruiting. You know we’re pushing stuff out on social media, looking for lateral officers looking for new officers and we’re just trying to fill some positions that we have vacant right now. We have five positions vacant, six positions vacant, and we’re trying to get officers in the door, pass background [checks] and [get] trained and put on the road,” said Dupee.
