San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan says Tuesday’s city council vote is about the city’s ability to create a utility company, and it’s the first of many steps in the process.
City Council is considering the possibility of creating its own power company. The council plans to decide Tuesday if it should move forward with gathering more information on the impact it’d have on the city. says Tuesday's City Council vote is simply to decide what it may take to create a power company managed by the city, but a lot more research has to be done before any official decision is made.
They city council will take a look at the economic impact and other key factors before finalizing any decision. "Right now what we’re looking at in the short term is interconnection rates. How quickly can new housing and jobs get connected to the grid so that we can continue to facilitate economic development in San Jose?" Mahan said.
