Milonga Empanadas, San Marcos
Matias Bienati, founder of the Milonga Empanadas food stand at four San Diego County farmers markets, has opened his first brick-and-mortar location in the North City development near Cal State San Marcos. Milonga serves scratch-made Argentinean-style empanadas. The restaurant also serves Argentine-inspired desserts and house-made chimichurri sauce. Open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays only.

Chef Travis Swikard of Callie is hosting fellow Cafe Boulud alum Aaron Bludorn of Houston’s Bludorn and Navy Blue restaurants Aug. 12 and 13. Together they will prepare a five-course, family-style seafood-focused meal celebrating the cuisine of the Texas Gulf coast.Taste of Gaslamp: Now in its 27th year, the culinary tasting tour will feature more than 20 restaurants across 16 blocks of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 9.
