Almost five years to the day since violence flared on Oldham's Limeside estate, 24 men have been brought to justice

A young girl stood on a road screamed out in terror as a group of up to 80 men wearing face masks ran towards her.

It was the day Tommy Robinson came to Oldham and now, almost five years on, more than 20 men have been brought to justice. Violence flared when the founder of the English Defence League visited the town's Limeside estate on May 18, 2019. Groups of predominantly Asian men then began to gather at the junction between Seventh and First Avenues.

Tactical Aid Unit officers arrived and pushed the groups back as the violence moved to Second Avenue. Mr Blackshaw said: "Tommy Robinson is a divisive and controversial figure. He has been involved in far-right politics for some time. He was a member of the British National Party from 2004 to 2005 and leader of the English Defence League between 2009 and October 2013.He detailed Mr Yaxley-Lennon's previous convictions and said: "It is fair to say that Mr Robinson’s reputation certainly preceded him to Limeside.

He said: "Another resident on Second Avenue heard Asian males shout 'white b******s' and 'we sell smack to you all' and 'we sell smack to your mums'. He saw the males were obscuring their faces with balaclavas, masks and bandanas." Police launched Operation Woodville in the aftermath. The M.E.N. can reveal 24 men have now been convicted and sentenced, with a 25th outstanding. A warrant has been issued by a judge for his arrest.

Dean Coleman, then 36, of Huntley Way, Heywood, was jailed for nine months. Jayden Mack, 21, of Parkfield Avenue, Oldham, got none months custody suspended for 18 months, as did Dillan Simpson, 22, of South Croft, Oldham, who was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work Mohammed Rahman, 36, from Stockfield Road, Chadderton, Oldham, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and was jailed for nine months, suspended for 12 months, with 60 hours of unpaid work.

He was jailed for 23 months, suspended for 24 months. Hussein was said in court to have 'set up and contributed to' the 'Halifax Pakistanis' Facebook page.
