When it comes to Hollywood red carpet s, a sense of formality always reigns supreme—with that being said, a sea of glitzy gowns can get old real quick. This week, however, the best dressed stars of the bunch challenged that notion of traditional stuffiness.
Instead, A-listers chose striking designs that reworked the idea of dressiness all together, bringing unexpected details to their ensembles that made them feel just a little more fresh, modern, and—dare we say—even fun. Take Zendaya in her plunging and sculptural black Armani Privé gown, which she borrowed from Cate Blanchett. Not too long ago, the idea of two A-listers wearing the same dress would ignite headlines—the horror!—but these days, that sense of sustainability and camaraderie felt right for the moment. Another eco-friendly fashion win this week? That would be courtesy of Anya Taylor-Joy, who attended an F1 event in Japan wearing a vintage leather Jean Paul Gaultier corset top from spring 1991. More than three decades later, it feels just as chic. Other stars, meanwhile, delivered even more twists on evening wear. Bella Ramsey reinvented the suit in a double-denim Canadian Tuxedo, courtesy of Thom Browne; Gugu Mbatha-Raw paired a cropped blazer with a full-on sequined skirt from Rabanne; Doja Cat wore an orange leather Romeo Hunte trench as a dress, forgoing a top underneath.
