The Ballroom, a beloved Austin music venue, is undergoing a major transformation with new management taking over.
The Ballroom , the music venue formerly attached to Spider House Café, is undergoing a major transformation. Resound Presents CEO and co-founder Graham Williams, along with a team of industry veterans, are taking over the space, aiming to revitalize it while preserving its essence.
Although Spider House Café closed its doors in 2020, The Ballroom continued to host a diverse array of events, from punk shows and burlesque revues to fundraisers, catering to University of Texas students and music enthusiasts alike. It will remain operational throughout most of the renovation process, scheduled to conclude in January 2025, with a grand reopening planned for March. The project is a collaborative effort, with Williams and Ian Orth, co-founders of another Austin institution, lending their expertise to manage the venue. They are joined by a seven-member team hailing from various prominent venues around town, including Hotel Vegas, Chess Club, Kinda Tropical, Tweedy’s, and Yellow Jacket Social Club, as well as Brian Buscemi and Mike Sanchez of the Little Darlin’. Williams emphasizes that the goal is not to drastically alter the venue but rather to enhance its existing strengths. 'Over the next few months as we kind of ease into the spring, we're using this downtime to revitalize things, decorate, revamp some of the stuff in the venue and the bar, and just kind of get things moving in the right direction,' Williams explains. 'We're taking what's already popular about the venue and just adding to it, really.'Renovations will encompass various aspects of the venue and bar, aiming to create a more vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Williams envisions a space that continues to host the eclectic mix of shows and events that have made The Ballroom a beloved institution in Austin's music scene. The team is committed to working closely with the local community to ensure that the renovations reflect the needs and desires of its patrons
