Nearly 47,000 Palisade and Palisade Hybrid owners are being notified about a seat belt defect with a fix coming in May

The 2026 Hyundai Palisade has been recalled for a seat belt wiring fault. Excessive tension on the buckle can damage internal wiring in the third row. This is the second separate recall issued within a single seven-day period.

It’s been barely a week since Hyundai Motor Company issued a stop-sale for the 2026 Palisade and some 2026 Kia Telluride SUVs as well, followed quickly by a recall tied to power-folding seats that may fail to detect passengers or objects. Now the large three-row SUV is back under scrutiny in the US, this time over a separate seat-related safety concern that feels familiar. Regulators have identified an issue with the internal wiring inside the third-row, left-side seat belt buckle. Under certain conditions, excessive tension applied when pulling the buckle can damage that wiring. If it fails, the system may no longer detect whether the seat belt is latched, creating an obvious safety concern, particularly in a vehicle aimed at families. Read: Child Death Leads To 2026 Hyundai Palisade Recall, But Still No Fix A total of 46,787 vehicles are affected. That includes 34,677 examples of the 2026 Palisade built between May 8, 2025, and November 22, 2025, along with 12,110 units of the 2026 Palisade Hybrid produced from August 11, 2025, to November 17, 2025. Five Reports Of Defects In The US According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall filing, Hyundai was first alerted to a potential issue affecting Korean-market vehicles in early January. A comprehensive investigation followed, during which the automaker identified five reports of the same defect in US-market vehicles. On the positive side, there have been no reported crashes, fires, injuries, or fatalities tied to the issue. Hyundai has instructed dealerships to install an extended wiring harness measuring 110 mm longer, reducing tension in the system. If required, the original seat belt buckle assembly will also be replaced. Owners of affected Palisade models are expected to receive recall notifications beginning May 18. For a model that has otherwise landed well with both buyers and critics since its debut last year, the recall adds an unwelcome footnote to the latest-generation Palisade. The issue follows a separate power-folding seat recall that has already spread to the updated Kia Telluride, which shares much of its underlying hardware. As for Telluride owners, there’s now a lingering question over whether the same seat belt buckle concern could surface there as well.
