After months of controversy and calls for new leadership, Celina ISD trustees voted to renew Superintendent Dr. Tom Maglisceau’s contract.

This comes two months after the district released a heavily redacted report that found systemic issues and failures in Celina’s athletic department. The Celina ISD school board voted to renew the superintendent’s contract despite calls for his resignation from some parents and community members.

The decision comes amid ongoing concerns and follows another alleged scandal involving former athletic director Bill Elliott. NBC 5’s Allie Spillyards reports from Celina with the latest developments. Amid calls for new leadership in Celina ISD, the board of trustees expressed support for Superintendent Dr. Tom Maglisceau, voting to renew his contract Monday night. It comes after some parents and community members called for his resignation, as well as the resignation of members of the board.Late last week, the district announced that it had been notified by the Texas Education Agency that recently retired athletic director Bill Elliott had surrendered his teaching license. The TEA said he was placed on a do-not-hire list instead of an investigation into allegations recently made against him, dating back to 1995.Caleb Elliott, who’s currently facing state and federal charges related to allegations that he recorded video of naked boys in a middle school locker room On Monday, there were parents in attendance who spoke publicly to call for more transparency and the resignation or dismissal of the superintendent and board. At the start of Monday’s meeting, Dr. Maglisceau addressed some of those concerns. “There are some people in our community that are tearing into one another and it hurts my heart, and it hurts my heart if I’m part of that, but I don’t understand when people are unwilling to simply reach out to one another to sit with one another in community and to try to seek resolution with one another. We want to make sure that we all remember that that’s what a community does,” said Maglisceau. According to a district spokesperson, Monday’s vote was part of the annual contract renewal cycle. She said the discussion was standard procedure.
