A Texas woman was sentenced to 14 years in prison for her part in a methamphetamine smuggling conspiracy.
A federal judge has sentenced a Texas woman to 14 years in prison for her role in a conspiracy to smuggle methamphetamine into the United States. Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection detained Linnette Rodriguez-Potter, 46, of Arlington, on July 25, 2020, at the Del Rio port of entry. The officers found Rodriguez-Potter with seven packages containing methamphetamine hydrochloride, according to a Tuesday statement from Jaime Esparza, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas .
Rodriguez-Potter conspired with Sally Renae Smith, Joshua Keith Stewart and Stetson Lee Spearman to smuggle in 3.422 kilograms of methamphetamine that registered a purity of 100%, according to federal court documents. Federal investigators searched Rodriguez-Potter's cellphone and found messages between her and Smith setting up plans to deliver the meth packages to a Del Rio motel so the co-conspirators could 'further traffic the methamphetamine elsewhere in Texas,' according to the U.S. attorney's office. All four defendants pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge. Rodriguez-Potter was sentenced Monday to 14 years in federal prison. Smith was sentenced to a 24-year term and Stewart to 19 years. Spearman is in federal custody and is scheduled to appear at a sentencing hearing on March 12 in Del Rio
