You can save some change while back-to-school shopping this weekend. It's the state's annual sales tax holiday.
School is starting, and that means many families will be out shopping for clothes, shoes, and school supplies.Thankfully, this weekend is Tax-Free Weekend in the state of Texas. The annual sales tax exemption holiday runs from Friday through midnight on Sunday.Specific items, such as school supplies, backpacks, clothing, and shoes priced under $100, will not be taxed at the register. The tax-free items can be bought in-store or purchased online, as long as those stores do business in Texas.
For many parents and teachers, every little bit of savings makes a difference."It's nice to get the little break in what we're spending," said Ashleigh Robb, a Richardson High School teacher. "I'm looking for notebook paper for sure. We use a lot of that with math. Pencils, markers because we have dry-erase desks. That's always convenient as well."Some stores are also offering additional discounts.
