We won’t pass judgment on Angela Paxton, whose untenable position and internal conflicts we don’t envy. She has watched through the years as theagainst her husband, including but not limited to: his indictment on felony securities fraud, whistleblower complaints alleging abuse of office to benefit political donor Nate Paul and to hide an extra-marital affair, and the recent 20 articles of impeachment filed against him.

Here in this one-party state, we don’t often see Republican leaders go out of their way to uphold principle or precedent or, most certainly, to police problematic members of their tribe. Sure, the Powers That Be may have reasons beyond moral duty for acting with such urgency. It could be that Paxton, who after impeachment remains suspended without pay, was pretty close to being arrested and indicted anew as part of an ongoing FBI investigation and that top Republicans would rather not have a sitting attorney general carted off in handcuffs.
