Texas schools have shown signs of recovery after pandemic-related learning losses, with an increase in academic performance for the first time in four years, according to Children at Risk's annual school performance index. The report highlights a surge in Gold Ribbon schools, which recognize high academic achievement despite high poverty levels, offering hope for students and communities. However, stagnant state funding and ongoing legal disputes surrounding academic accountability scores remain challenges for the state's education system.

Texas students suffered deep learning losses during the pandemic, putting future earning potential and career opportunities at risk.

Children at Risk’s A through F index is based on campus performance, academic growth, student achievement and college readiness.after a group of districts sued Education Commissioner Mike Morath over the grading methodology and won a temporary restraining order. The district’s efforts seem to be paying off at specialized high schools, said Sanborn. Magnet schools and those with selective-entrance criteria typically lead the rankings.

The Dallas school earned a Gold Ribbon and rose to 18th in this year’s regional rankings, up from last year’s 37th.
